Old Gaytonians were formed in 1934, playing their first game on the 22nd September
Originally a fully closed Club consisting of members who were former pupils of Harrow County School. The name Gaytonians is taken from the name of the road in which the School stands.
The Clubs ground is at South Vale, on the south-western side of Harrow Hill and has two pitches in one of London's most picturesque settings. When fielding more than two home games we have access to a third pitch about 400 yards away and if need be have access to the school pitches.
The ground has recently been extensively drained and the main pitch is now to
'international' standards. Like many Clubs in the area where land is at a premium we suffer from dual use of part of both pitches, cricket in summer, rugby football in winter.
With changes taking place in the education system Harrow County lost its sixth form and its name, it is now Gayton High School. We have formed strong links with Gunnersbury Catholic School for Boys, and our players now come largely from the two schools with the remainder being invited players or friends and colleagues of members.
We currently run five sides. With the onset of League Football we have been placed in London League 1. Our fixture list is now the strongest in the Club's history, with opposition from three Area League South sides, all the London 1 sides, two from South West 1 , the remainder are long-standing fixtures, but mainly from the London North 2.
We were until recently the only junior side ever to reach the final of the Middlesex Cup losing to Metropolitan Police in 72/73 and to Wasps in 81 /82. During the lifetime of the Agar Cup competition we won the trophy six out of eight seasons.
Several of our players have gone on to play senior rugby and at representative level; D. H. Rees, R. L. W. Stevens, G.D. Rees played for Middlesex County R.F.U., E. K. Cornes played for Warwickshire and East Midlands, R. A. P. Lozowski played for Hertfordshire, I. R. Abbott - Bath.
G.D. Rees played for Harlequin, R. A. P. Lozowski for Wasps, P.R. Minihan (Wasps), O. A. Yarrow (Wasps), D. L. Thomas (London Welsh), T. A. Hanlon (London Irish), D. G. Bright (Saracens), C. D'Arcy (Saracens). Whilst playing for Wasps R. A. P. Lozowski has played for England. At Junior Representative level D. M. Maxted, N. G. Dickens, P. R. Minihan, S. J. Rigby, D. L. Thomas, A. R. Wright, D. O'Hanlon, J. H. Adams have played for Combined London Old Boys.
Several of the above have also played for Middlesex County Clubs. The Club has made two appearances in the John Player Cup in 1981 and 1982.
The Club is engaged in a programme of continuous improvement both of facilities and playing skills, remembering however that it is an amateur game played in a professional manner largely for fun.
