A tough day at the office and unfortunately, this was never going to be a game played on a level playing field, as the Belsize coach openly admitted such at the end of the game. That aside, however, the scoreline does not reflect on the effort put in by every player yesterday, particularly in the second half, with 1871 repeatedly pushing at Belsize and holding them to two tries. Unfortunately the efforts put in were not rewarded due to the last third of phases and plays falling short and thereby leaving an easy 3 or 4 tries out there. The touchline in the first half was very vociferous, but once Eddie Beck scored, at the end of the first half, off a quick tap penalty, they began to fall silent.
Tremendous heart was shown from all of the players, putting their bodies on the line (hence the injury list) and once again the front row performed very well winning our ball and against the head, again and again. All three thoroughly deserved the 2-3.
Sadly, the game had to finish early, with 14 minutes to go, as the referee picked up and injury and could not continue.
No doom and gloom for this loss though, we have a lot of very, very good stuff to build on.
Scorers: Eddie Beck (try)
