Verdict
A very good 1st half putting Op’s under great pressure from the kick-off and pinning them in their 22, before getting the just rewards. This was essentially the theme of the half, with OP’s having to defend all across the field and Ealing being patient throughout, before passing the ball wide and re-stretching their defence. The half time score suggested more of the same and the huddle showed great energy and determination. However, come the 2nd half, the catch pass accuracy became very poor and the defence scrabbled giving OP’s a decent platform to come back. All of the good work that had been created in the first half evaporated and the processes used that left OP’s wanting had gone.
A spectator counted 10 knock-ons in the half, gifting OP’s ball, territory and ultimately points.
Despite the substitutions that OP’s made at half time, which helped to change their game, this was a match aching to be won by Ealing.
Frustrating as it was, there is clearly there is a solid 2’s team here and with more collective training sessions, I strongly feel that we can turn this streak around.
