A tight and entertaining game of rugby.
A slightly fractured warm-up due to lateness and slippery conditions, but there was enthusiasm.
Finsbury Park had enough numbers for rotation, but going from a healthy squad to going down to just one, very last-minute arrival substitute and for players having to play completely out of position, it was always going to be a challenge for 1871. Nevertheless, 1871 fronted up and put Finsbury Park under pressure for the first 10 minutes, then had to soak up pressure from Finsbury Park who were able to muscle over from the tight spaces. Not to be outdone, 1871 rallied and once again took the fight to Finsbury Park, getting rewards for their efforts, seeing out the half four points behind.
The second half was a real battle of wits, with neither wanting to give an inch. Powerful defensive sets from both sides denying each other any advantage and realistically 1871 squandering some chances after good build-ups, due to white line fever.
At full time, with the half remaining scoreless, Finsbury Park let out a great roar after their hard-won game.
A loss, for 1871, but huge positives to come out of this game.
Special mention goes to the following:
Odysseas Georgiou
He happily played completely out of position right in the middle of the coal face and fared very well as a new Hooker for 1871.
“I’ll play anywhere to help the team”
Marquis Daly Vidal
He stepped up without any complaint in the back row and comment from our physio, Millie, she did not believe he missed one tackle. I’m not sure he did either. He played completely out of his skin and thoroughly deserved the 2-3
TJ Robinson
Got the measure of his opposite prop who was a conservative 10kg heavier and had very good acceleration over short distances. Not sure I have ever seen a player getting blown out of his boots before. TJ is now the proud owner of the front plate of the boot (with four studs attached)
