Ealing Amateurs notch up fourth straight league win.

Ealing Amateurs maintained their strong early-season form with an emphatic away victory over Civil Service who, like the visitors, came into the game with three wins out of three in Middlesex Merit Table 1. The victory was founded on a dominant forward display both in the set pieces and in the loose. Were it not for a few missed tackles in an open, entertaining encounter and a penalty count of 15 to 3 in favour of Civil Service, the margin of victory might have been even greater.

Civil Service opened the scoring with the breeze behind their backs but Ealing stormed back with a try by second-row Sean Kennett within seconds of the restart. After 25 minutes fly-half Andy Jack’s cross-field kick narrowly evaded the grasp of Mike Whitney, and from the ensuing line-out prop Patrizio Banchar bulldozed his way over. Ten minutes the lead was extended when No 8 Adam Hulmston picked up at the base of a rampant scrum and the move was rounded off by full-back Andy Johnston coming into the line to wrong-foot the defence. The game was effectively won when Eoghan O’Sullivan scored wide out on the left wing, leaving the half-time score at 24-7.

A fine try by CS Rugby bursting out of defence reduced the margin before Pascal Baptiste, put into space on the right wing, was held up on the line. Hooker Tom Byrne picked up the loose ball and drove over.

Further tries by centres Andy Tew (2) and Des Crinion, as well as a second try for Johnston put Ealing out of sight, despite another two tries for the hosts.

This Saturday 20th October Ealing Amateurs entertain Black Baa Baas at Vallis Way.
