Wyke Meadow
Alias: UCS Rugby, Ealing Rugby
Type: Club House

Gower Rd, London, Isleworth TW7 5PY

Wyke Meadow was the home to UCS Rugby from 1902 until 1979. It was also the home for Ealing Rugby Club from 1948 until 1958 when the Club moved to Berkeley Fields.

Nigel Hickman and Mike Williams recall the old clubhouse with affection.

"I was thinking about The UCS Osterley clubhouse. I remember that after the match(s) the bar was men only until about 6pm. I remember then being allowed in with my sister !!  Not sure if you can confirm this?   Cheers,    Nigel."

"I well remember the UCS ground where Ealing played for several years in the 1950's & I played there under 1st xv captains John Mallinson & Terry Connor. John Hickman also played in the side. I can't actually recall the men only rule, but in the back of my mind I have a feeling it is true. I certainly remember Terry Connors wife Jo who watched most matches being there, but UCS, as Nigel said had excellent facilities for the time & did have another room where meals were served & could be where ladies were until after 6-00pm !!

The Granville pub was where the Club met for away games but also drank there after home matches at Gunnersbury Park (after tea served in Jack's cafe which was right opposite the pub at Ealing Common). I well remember many of the characters to whom Nigel refers."
