A tense game of rugby on a warm and sunny Chiswick 4G pitch!
A pretty good warm-up some, although a small spark missing, but a good team attitude which led out to the pitch.
Quintin were mob handed with numerous substitutes and a vast number of exchanges with some very enthusiastic supporters.
The first half was a tit-for-tat affair, with Quintin scoring with the power game around the fringes, whilst 1871 scoring from some well structured plays and by exploiting the gaps in the defensive line, by Jack Feeney (2 Colt) and Stanley Ridout (Colt) scoring on his debut. It was two tries each and a penalty kick each at half time, with the boot of Harrison Slater (10 & VC) making the difference. Although the early yellow card against Quintin could have been further exploited with a little bit more composure from 1871.
The second half started much the same as the first with Quintin scoring first, but 1871 coming back to take more points with Keatan Gill (5) scoring from his own power game and Harrison Slater once again nailing the conversion. However, Quintin came back to score twice in the last 17 minutes and sealing the game with a conversion at 31 minutes.
Quintin accepted that they were in a big battle and oh for Veo footage of the touchline and the ability for someone to count the allowed interchanges. Despite this irritation, these were two well matched and determined sides, who really went toe to toe over 80 minutes.
This game the back row pairing of Theo Szweda (6) and Pat Yeates (7) stood out, as determined tackle machines and both being strong in the carry.
A big congratulations to Quintin, who did not stop until the final whistle and for repelling four clear try scoring opportunities by 1871, which helped to make the biggest difference to the sides.
No promotion for 1871 this year, but all of the players who pulled on the shirt for 1871 this season should be really proud of themselves for the hard work and determination they have shown all season and particularly for the effort and belief post-Christmas to help finish the league in such a good position up the league table.
1871 go again in the MMT Semi-Final next week away at Hampstead
