A good game of rugby!

A solid warm-up some focused faces and a good team attitude led out to the pitch.

OP’s came to play and are a strong, physical and well-structured side, but after a good first 20 minutes 1871 seemed to run out of steam, which allowed OP’s to get their tails up and get back into the game. The half-time chat encouraged the players to get that first 20 minutes attitude back to the fore and keep if for the whole of the second half.  They did not disappoint, with what must the fastest try to be scored at Vallis Way, with Aidan Jones (MotM) chasing down the kick-off and beating 14 of the OP’s players to the punch and out muscling the last OP player.

Great cohesion, across the squad, with the bench not looking out of place when they came on.

Solid in the scrum, for and against their ball.

Almost perfect lineout

Sensible throughout at the breakdown (requirements re-enforced by Tim Hitchcock at half time)

Good handling from the backs

Well-orchestrated by Harrison Slater

Highlight of the day was the last try which started from a scrum on the 1871, 5 mtr line and finished with a deft soft hand pass from Kavan Fitzpatrick to Alex Tarrant to put him under the posts.  Class!

Lovely stuff, next job…
