Fielding a much-changed team in an away friendly against local rivals Chiswick II, Ealing Amateurs 1sts still managed to run in nine unanswered tries in an exhibition of clinical finishing. The Amateurs have now recorded ten straight wins since the start of the season.

After an evenly contested opening period, the visitors turned on the pressure at a series of five-metre scrums, and quick recycling after sniping by scrum-half Alex Hazell led to a try by flanker Des Crinion. Ealing returned to the attack from the re-start, and rucked ball was moved along the back-line for centre Jon Knott to beat his opposite number and score from 30 yards. On the half-hour mark Ealing’s forwards drove inexorably towards the Chiswick line, and Crinion scored in an almost carbon copy of his earlier effort. The try of the match came shortly before the break, when the Ealing forwards created a solid platform enabling debutant Ealing Academy winger Stewart Park to accelerate away from would-be tacklers on an angled run to the posts. Jonny Murphy added the extras to make the half-time score 24-0.

Soon after the break Park received the ball near the touch-line, cut inside and was eventually hauled down just short of the line. Ealing’s forwards were on hand to give Knott the opportunity to score his second of the day. Two further tries by Crinion, one at close quarters and another from 30 yards, were just reward for a dominant display in the loose by the visiting pack. Ealing Academy flanker Rob Kane, also making his senior debut, was held up close to the line after one of many probing runs, and offloaded to No 8 Andrew Tew, who sauntered over the line unopposed. Tew then sealed the comprehensive victory with another close-range effort.

Tries: Crinion (4), Knott (2), Tew (2), Park
Conversions: Murphy (4)
