Obituary

The Club has received the sad news that Frank McHale has passed away at a far too young an age after a battle with lung cancer on the 21st September 2021.

Frank's funeral will be held at Corpus Christi RC Church Boscombe, Bournemouth BH7 6AN at 13.30 on Thursday 30th September and it will be streamed live and you can view it here

Also on Saturday 25th September some of Frank's old friends from St Benedict’s School and rugby have booked the function room at Ealing Cricket Club from 17.00 onwards, so if anyone who knew Frank from the Club would like to pop along to raise a glass you are very welcome.

Valedictory

Sad news reached me this evening, a former Club colleague Frank McHale passed away yesterday following a battle with lung cancer.

Frank was one of the original Ealing Colts who began the Club’s now long association with junior rugby back in the late 1970’s. Frank was one of a cohort of St Benedict’s Schoolboys who formed the nucleus of our original under-age rugby team. Being tall he found himself generally in the 2nd Row and played Colts and Seniors during his playing career at the Club, always giving it 100% and always having something to say - usually very funny too!

It was another past player from that time Seamus Kerr who passed me news of Frank’s passing and as I said to Seamus, Frank was a real character, a phrase often overused but this time it is absolutely apt. Frank was a great guy to play alongside, to share a beer with after the game and to have as a mate. Rest in peace Frank.

That is very sad news indeed. I knew his brother Austin better but he never played for the club.

Sad day, top bloke, I’m friends with the family so am in touch.

Very sorry to hear that. Don't think I played with him but I remember him from Colts.

Frank was one of my Colts and big (funny) handful. I have some memories of him as a young man. He scorned driving through Greenford to the Club because he viewed it as “a f-ing toilet”. There are others!

I have some very sad news in that Frank McHale, who played in the Colts and Senior sides in the late 70’s early 80’s, usually in Paul Foreman’s or Damian’s Bugeja’s sides has passed away at far too young an age after a battle with lung cancer on the 21st September. Frank was a larger than life character both on and off the pitch and was a more than eager participant on the Colts tours to Ireland, the legendary Jersey tour and our fantastic tour to the USA. When not at the Club, Frank would be found in the middle bar of the North Star where many a memorable post match night would take place, before the obligatory curry at Monty’s.
