A really good game of rugby, that could have gone either way!
Lots of good energy to start and some confidence in the group.
Although Finchley scored from a penalty after only three minutes, 1871 were firing and began scoring tries and taking the different available advantages to very good effect. The stall was set out and 1871 were 19 points to 3 after 16 minutes. However, Finchley started to get into their stride and capitalised on some fairly basic 1871 errors, with the half ending 19 - 18 in 1871’s favour.
It was an almost even-Steven’s 2nd half, with the tit-for-tat going on for the next 80. Finchley pretty much threw the kitchen sink at 1871 in the half, but for the sake of a very, very good D set, they just could not crack that nut. The final whistle went with the wrongs righted from the first game early in the season with the score at 29 - 28 to 1871.
Theo Szweda stood out and rightfully earned the 2-3, but mention must go to the following:
Adam Balmer from the Colts, who put in a great shift when he came on for his debut.
A special mention to Harrison Slater for earning his 100th cap for 1871.
Millie Watts for once again putting the players back together and very nearly taking part in the action as the play went on around her, a bit too close for comfort on a couple of occasions…
Roll on next week…
