Background to the event
‘The best laid plans of mice and men…’ and then the pandemic hit. It is a fact that the club envisaged an event that allowed for all members and their partners to attend and celebrate our 150th season, but any thoughts of that disappeared as event venues and indeed the organisations behind them fell by the wayside. Plan B? A much smaller event, and as it turned out, a much cosier one, was quickly assembled.
The decision was made to give priority to past players, and the theme of ‘rugby through the decades’ quickly adopted, and what a success that proved to be, with rugby memories from our speakers flooding the room. An emotional evening for many in the room.
The speed with which the dinner was brought together would not have been possible without the efforts of many behind the scenes, but praise and thanks must go to the Trailfinders Sport Club’s staff led by Anett Tosmagi, who on the evening delivered on all fronts.
Also we must single out our resident 'snapper" MC Tsang for his excellent compendium of photographs capturing many facets form the evening.
And finally, I have to single out Mike and Angela Jackson. Mike, having attended the 100th dinner in 1971, made a promise to himself that he would make a gift of port for the 150th dinner. It was a wonderful gesture and enjoyed by many on the evening. Some, perhaps, enjoyed it a little too much, but these special occasions only come around every 50 years!
